Pilgrims on the “Sternenweg” should be inspired for the added value of organic, regional and fair trade food.

Almost all pilgrimage stations in the Saarbrücken region and in the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve now offer special pilgrimage products for pilgrimage guests that come from organic farming, the region or fair trade ingredients. Nice examples are the pilgrim stations Gut Hartungshof and the farm store of the Wintringer Hof. At the pilgrimage station in the Holy Cross Monastery in Püttlingen, there is also a sales station for fair trade products.

Special pilgrimage products include publications and pilgrimage maps, a scallop soap made with shea butter from Burkina Faso. There are also “tea herbs from the Sternenweg” in two different flavors from the Bliesgau UNESCO biosphere reserve. A pilgrim’s cream, also based on shea butter in the scents lavender or orange, is not only very popular with pilgrims as a whole-body care, but also extremely beneficial for the feet on longer pilgrimages!

A “pilgrim basket” with a selection of these products, is suitable as a special gift idea. In addition, there is another pilgrimage basket “Sternenweg meets fair trade” with combinations of fair and regionally traded products. Some examples are: Dried Mangoes + Pilgrim Wine or Pilgrim Cream + Pilgrim Soap or Pilgrim Tea + Pilgrim Soap.

On the guided hikes on the “Sternenweg” in the Saarbrücken region, ecological and fair-trade products are occasionally offered for consumption and, above all, background information is provided. Many locals and guests have come into contact with the topics and products in this way and carry the idea further.
